Transatlantic (In)Securities: 2020 Ohio-Leipzig Transatlantic Summit

The 2020 Transatlantic Student Summit on Friday, October 23 brought together alumni, faculty and experts from both sides of the Atlantic to discuss and prepare the future of mutual exchange in the new decade.

In two conversations, both experiences and visions were brought to the table in order to gain an overview on the longer lines of cohesion and trust that stem from interactions between civil society and academia. In the first round, faculty and alumni from Leipzig and Ohio University laid the grounds for a possible alumni network and the re-establishment of transatlantic learning programs that can emerge out of the pandemic into the next year(s).

Following, a town hall conversation brought together four distinguished experts and their perspectives on transatlantic exchange and security through civil society and mutual coalescence.

Together, we’ve discussed challenges and chances for the new decade, reminisced on anecdotes that stand witness to shared legacies and experiences, and engaged in a lively Q&A with a transatlantic audience of students and alumni from exchange programs between Leipzig and the US.

Special thanks to the panelists Emily Norris, Consul at the Consulate General Leipzig, Dr. Maria Skora, Das Progressive Zentrum Berlin, Dr. Nukhet Sandal and Dr. Matthew LeRiche, both at Ohio University for a lively debate that filled the room with positive spirits, and kudos to the students and general audience for their excellent questions, remarks and engagement.
