The German-American School Outreach Program (GASOP) encourages vibrant intercultural exchange among students and teachers in eastern Germany through workshops and projects led by Fulbright grantees, who serve as School Outreach Fellows from October through June of each school year.
-
Our School Outreach Fellows are Fulbright grantees with backgrounds in education and transatlantic affairs. They are dedicated to fostering international and intercultural dialogue in the classroom while learning to understand and respect the specific regional context of Central Germany. More information about our fellows can be found below.
-
GASOP is rooted in the belief that personal experiences and relationships play a pivotal role in engaging young people with transatlantic issues in Central Germany and beyond.
For schools, GASOP brings opportunities for cultural exchange directly into classrooms across the region. German teachers gain access to native speakers and innovative thematic content through workshops which aim to foster the consideration of diverse viewpoints, challenge deeply rooted stereotypes, and facilitate a more nuanced understanding of complex global issues.
For fellows, GASOP provides opportunities for professional development and support as they develop their school workshops. Fellows participate in meetings in Leipzig to contextualize their experiences in the region and develop their skills as an educator. To further support their growth and learning, they join a network of educators and program alumni who are committed to promoting transatlantic dialogue in Central Germany and beyond.
Möchten Sie einen Workshop für Ihre Schule buchen?
Bitte beachten sie, dass unsere Workshops in der Regel nur von Februar bis Juni möglich sind.

Hallo zusammen! I am Declan, a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant at OSZ Gebrüder Reichstein in Brandenburg an der Havel. I am from Western North Carolina, and graduated from Wake Forest University this past May with a B.A. in English and German. My interests jumped around in college, from creative writing, to 19th century German literature, and finally to Old English, but my fascination with reading in educational contexts has held strong throughout. As a School Outreach Fellow, I will investigate the spectrum of regulated literature in public education, from “required reading” to “banned books.” After another year (either here, as an English Teaching Assistant, or in the US as a legal assistant in discovery) I will pursue a PhD in Medieval Studies, focusing on the literature of early England. I spend my free time reading everything I possibly can, visiting the historical sites I’ve read too much about, biking when it’s flat, and hiking when it’s not.
