Teaching US News: Teachers Workshop
On November 11, 2020, our EducationUSA advisers Erica Larson Bautze and Heather Pruessing welcomed 10 student-teacher participants from Leipzig University to a digital workshop on teaching US news.
This workshop specifically looked at the US presidential election and the series of media events influencing voters up until November. There was a discussion about the general influence of an “October surprise” on presidential elections both during the current election cycle and in previous cycles. The workings of the electoral college and how unexpected swing-states such as Georgia decided the election guided the discussion.
The teacher-students received support with an introduction to US-centered teaching sources and material to supplement their studies in English language teaching.
