Transatlantic Ambassadors

Strengthening Transatlantic Networks in Eastern Germany

Transatlantic dialogue remains significantly less developed in eastern than in western German regions. This is evident in the fact that personal international experience—especially stays in the United States—is far less frequent.

The Transatlantic Ambassadors program aims to build a sustainable network of returnees from transatlantic exchange programs, while actively involving current U.S. exchange grantees in processes of regional dialogue. Both groups are strengthened, connected, and made visible in their roles as credible ambassadors for transatlantic understanding.

The development of long-term contacts and the targeted use of transatlantic experience at the local level contribute to the professionalization and internationalization of eastern Germany and foster a stronger identification with democratic and transatlantic values. In this way, the project contributes to the resilience of democratic culture, helps overcome experiences of exclusion, and increases the visibility of international opportunities in structurally weaker regions of eastern Germany.
