Film Screening: Pariah

On Wednesday, February 5, DAIS hosted its first film screening in cooperation with American Space Leipzig and GRASSI Museum of Ethnology. The film screening is the first of an ongoing series in GRASSI Museum’s beautiful movie theater.

The 2011 movie Pariah tells the coming-of-age story of Alike, a young African-American woman, and thus was a suitable choice to kick off Black Women’s History Month.

The film screening started with an introduction by Mascha Lange, a predoctoral fellow at the American Studies Leipzig Institute. Lange highlighted the film’s reception and cultural significance with an all-black, predominantly female cast.

Our film screenings are part of the American Film Program at American Space Leipzig. Every movie we show can also be borrowed for free at the American Space Leipzig library.
