Congressional Study Tour in Leipzig
We are honored to welcome the Congressional Study Group in Leipzig on February 11, 2025.
Three of the participants retired in 2021, while the other three were active until just few weeks ago in January 2025. They are from Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida, Alabama, Indiana, and North Carolina.
In collaboration with Leipzig University and the United States Association of Former Members of Congress (FMC), we cordially invite you to two special events with the delegation from Washington D.C.
The Representatives
The Hon. Larry Bucshon (R-IN, 2011-2025)
Congressman Larry Bucshon, M.D. (pronounced: “Boo-shon”) represents the Eighth District of Indiana, which encompasses all or part of 21counties in Southern and West Central Indiana. First elected to the House of Representatives in 2010, Dr. Bucshon was most recently a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
Before coming to Congress, Dr. Bucshon was a practicing physician and surgeon specializing in cardiothoracic surgery. He currently serves as a Vice Chair of the GOP Doctors Caucus. In the 117th Congress, Dr. Bucshon was selected by then-House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy to serve on the Healthy Future Task Force, and lead the Subcommittee on Doctor/Patient Relationships.

The Hon. Kathy Manning (D-NC, 2021-2025)
Congresswoman Kathy Manning represented North Carolina’s Sixth Congressional District, which includes Guilford and Rockingham Counties and parts of Forsyth and Caswell Counties -- an area known as the Triad.
As a member of the Education and Labor Committee, Kathy is a strong advocate for early childhood education and investments in school infrastructure and Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Kathy is working to increase access to vocational and technical education and apprenticeship opportunities while making higher education more affordable. As Vice Ranking Member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and a member of the Middle East, North Africa, and Global Counterterrorism Subcommittee, Kathy is a vocal advocate for democracy and maintaining strong relationships with United States’ allies, including Israel. Additionally, Kathy is the Co-Chair of the House Bipartisan Taskforce for Combatting Antisemitism and a member of the New Democrat Coalition.

The Hon. Martha Roby (R-AL, 2011-2021)
Martha Roby is a senior advisor in Bradley’s Governmental Affairs and Economic Development practice groups. Prior to joining Bradley, Martha served as the U.S. Representative for Alabama's second congressional district from 2011 to 2021. Early in her tenure, she served on the Agriculture, Armed Services, and Education and Workforce committees. She also served as the chairman of the Subcommittee of Oversight and Investigations of the House Armed Services Committee during the 113th Congress and was the ranking member of the Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet for the House Judiciary Committee in the 116th Congress.
Martha was the first representative from Alabama’s Second Congressional District to serve on the House Appropriations Committee, where at some point she served on six of the 12 subcommittees and had direct oversight of over 90 departments and related agencies. In her tenure in Congress, she sponsored and cosponsored more than 500 bills. She distinguished herself as an effective legislator focusing on issues directly impacting her constituents, including veterans’ health and military mobility.

The Hon. Donna Shalala (D-FL, 2019-2021)
Donna Shalala was born in Ohio and studied history at Western College for Women. She worked in Iran from 1962 to 1964 as one of the first U.S. Peace Corps volunteers, and then earned a Ph.D. in public affairs from Syracuse University in 1970. After teaching at Bernard M. Baruch College and Columbia University, she served in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development under President Jimmy Carter, from 1977 to 1980.
After serving as president of Hunter College, Shalala became chancellor of UW-Madison in 1988. She was the first woman to lead a Big Ten Conference school, and only the second woman in the country to head a major research university. She served as chancellor until 1993, when President Bill Clinton appointed her as secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). She became president of the University of Miami in 2001 and led the school for 14 years. In 2015, the Clinton Foundation, an international charitable organization started by the former president’s family, invited Shalala to be its chief executive officer. Shalala served in that role until March 2017.
In November 2018, Donna Shalala was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives on behalf of Florida’s 27th Congressional District. In 2010, she received the Nelson Mandela Award for Health and Human Rights and in 2019, she was elected to the Government Hall of Fame.

The Hon. Steve Stivers (R-OH, 2011-2021)
Raised in Ripley, Ohio, Steve Stivers learned from his mother and father the importance of family, hard work and public service, which have been the values he has carried with him throughout his life.
In May 2021, he was selected to lead the Ohio Chamber of Commerce as President and CEO. Prior to joining the Ohio Chamber, Stivers represented Ohio’s 15th Congressional District from 2011 until May 16, 2021. He served on the Financial Services Committee and was the Ranking Member on the Subcommittee on Housing, Community Development, and Insurance.
In January 2003, he was appointed to the Ohio Senate and successfully ran for a full term in 2004. He was assigned to various committees and chaired Insurance, Commerce and Labor. Throughout his career, Steve Stivers has led the way supporting programs and initiatives to encourage job creation, promote economic development, and put our country’s fiscal house in order. A career soldier, Stivers has served over 30 years in the Ohio Army National Guard, holds the rank of Major General, and received the Bronze Star for his leadership throughout his deployment. Stivers received both his bachelor’s degree and his MBA from The Ohio State University and a master’s degree in strategic studies from the Army War College.

The Hon. Susan Wild (D-PA, 2019-2025)
Congresswoman Susan Wild has been a member of the Lehigh Valley community for more than 30 years. Her two adult children were born and raised in the Valley, where they attended public schools. Susan built a successful legal practice while raising her two children and became the first woman to be appointed as Allentown City Solicitor.
In November 2018, Congresswoman Wild was elected as the first woman to represent Pennsylvania’s 7th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Congresswoman Wild has been appointed to the House Education and Labor Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee and is committed to fighting for quality, affordable health care for all, an economy that benefits every member of our community, and reforming our political system to return government to the American people.
