Transatlantic Alumni Network
Central Germany
TANCG is the Transatlantic Alumni Network Central Germany at the German-American Institute Saxony (DAIS). Since 2022, it connects alumnae/i from various programs and affiliated partner institutions to create a resilient network of young stakeholders committed to promoting transatlantic values and global-regional exchange in Central Germany, and beyond.
The area of Central Germany—Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia—is among the most transformative areas in Europe. It has undergone rapid transformation during the last three decades. Many challenges have been shouldered by the region and its people. At the same time, the pains of transformation have resulted in wide-spread constituencies prone to illiberal messaging, disinformation campaigns, and anti-democratic tendencies.
We believe the central German region can only benefit from increased exposure to global and transatlantic perspectives. The exchange of experiences from regions affected by similar challenges can open new avenues for addressing transformations yet to come–from climate change to digitalization and the future of democracy. Especially young voices and audiences are called for duty to actively determine and shape the changes affiliated.
In order to engage them sustainably, it demands strong networks among stakeholders in the region. These networks can provide perspectives, the exchange of best practices, and connect educators, journalists, vocational schools, universities, businesses and policy makers in the region.
