Ukrainian Week 2024

In November 2024, we hosted the second Ukrainian Week in Leipzig in cooperation with Leipzig University Library. The program consisted of four public events, featuring experts from the United States, German Americanists and Ukrainists, and four guests from Kyiv.

Together, we explored Ukraine’s unique history and national identity, Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine and the West, and the ongoing attempt to erase Ukrainian identity and rewrite history. A central theme of the week was understanding the war not only as an attack on Ukraine, but as a broader assault on the West, its values, and its democratic order.

The four events attracted a total of 210 visitors, demonstrating strong public interest and engagement. The week was a major success and will be continued in the upcoming year.

More than just a celebration of transatlantic relations, Ukrainian history, and cultural resilience, the event series stood as a powerful affirmation of democratic solidarity and the future of our alliance.
