John B. Emerson is an American diplomat, lawyer, and the former United States Ambassador to Germany (2013 to 2017).

On January 20th, 2017, John B. Emerson, until then the US Ambassador to Germany, and his family boarded a plane from Berlin to their home in Los Angeles, California. It was the day of the inauguration of Donald J. Trump and the beginning of what many would later call a very new chapter in the transatlantic partnership.

Four years later, we welcome Ambassador Emerson to talk about his perspective on the past and future of the transatlantic relationship as part of the series „Ende des transatlantischen (T)Raumes?“. He will share his personal experiences from his time in Berlin and talk about the important role of ambassadors for international relations, how the past four years impacted the transatlantic relationship and what the new administration may mean for the diplomatic relations between Germany and the US.
