Whoever watches movies, knows Los Angeles with ever having been there. The californian metropolis is more than the dream factory Hollywood, it is the setting of countless cinematic stories, it perpetually plays itself: The cinematic landscape of Los Angeles is its architecture, its endless highways and palm-tree lined boulevards as well as its economic and political faultlines. In five movies from inside and outside the canon, our film series explores Los Angeles through the prism of its movies, discovering the city as a cultural geography, an ever-changing scenery and most of all, the home of millions of people from the most diverse backgrounds.

The opening event takes place on December 18th 2023, 6:00 pm, in the halls of RDG Stiftung (Markt 10, 04109 Leipzig), accompanied with a talk with Kevin Vennemann (Scripps College, Los Angeles) about his book Sunset Boulevard. Vom Filmen, Bauen und Sterben in Los Angeles (Suhrkamp 2012). All further screenings at Cineding Leipzig.
