Episode 13 – Covering Right-Wing Populism in Saxony w/ Emily Schultheis
This week’s episode is the recording of a conversation DAIS Executive Director Eric W. Fraunholz and Constantin J. Berlin had with journalist Emily Schultheis.
Emily Schultheis is a freelance journalist and fellow with the Institute of Current World Affairs in Berlin, where she writes about German politics and the rise of populist far-right parties across Europe. Her work has appeared in The Atlantic, Politico, The Guardian, The New York Times, Foreign Policy, Der Tagesspiegel, Deutsche Welle, and Spiegel International, among others.
We talked about her work as a journalist, how being a US-American impacts her work and research, what differentiates populism in the US and Germany, and what the ongoing pandemic could mean for right-wing populist movements.
